Working together with Ricky
I currently balance my commissioned work and original titles alongside family life and working in an awesome digital education team at the Australian National University. I am interested and available in two types of work: Short projects, and full employment.
Short projects
Short projects are usually standalone digital interactive pieces (like a short game or touch screen exhibit) where the client has a broad idea of a product they would like, and need a small and agile creative developer to help them refine the idea and then create the product.
Some of my previous project requests have been on the themes of:
- “Can you make an iPad game that teaches kids about our service and helps spread awareness while being fun?”,
- “We have an exhibition coming up that features some fragile items. Can you come up with a creative way to digitise them and make them interactive for our visitors?”,
- “Can you help us build some online training modules? We have it all scripted, but need someone to assemble it neatly online.”
Example: The Guide Star arcade game I made for the Outer Space: Stromlo to the Stars exhibition at CMAG had a clear brief of what the museum was looking for, definite delivery timeframe for the exhibition, and the client was flexible with meeting times. This allowed me to schedule formal blocks of leave from my day job to work on the game.
Full employment
I currently have one of the best teams in existence, but the university sector (and ANU in particular) is a fragile and uncertain place right now.
If you’re looking for someone who can design and produce games, craft online education resources, 3D scan heritage items, improve digital accessibility, lead production projects, devise methods for successful hybrid events, and basically invent cool creative stuff that hasn’t been done before, and you’re happy for that person to be in Canberra, then it would be really great to chat and learn more about what you’re thinking of and looking for!
