A board game I made with one of my kids

I have young kids, and they love board games. Back in the second half of 2013, they were really into pretending to be firefighters. Sam was 5 years old at the time and he loved drawing board games on paper. One day I  whispered to him, “hey, should we make a real board game and surprise everyone with it for Christmas?”

Sam loved the idea, and I got him to mock a game up on paper while I went to learn where to get a gameboard printed (I had never made a real board before).

I soon found The Game Crafter. You upload your graphics onto their site, and they print board games and boxes and pieces and ship them over. So, I grabbed their board and box sizing templates, got Sam’s paper design, got some stock photos of firetrucks and jumped into Photoshop!

Really fun!
